A Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, Reiki is a simple system of natural healing used to reduce stress and tension and promote natural healing. Developed after many years of meditation and reasearch by Dr Usui, traditional methods and attunements are still carried out today by practitioners who have been attuned to Reiki and Reiki Masters.
Working on the desire to be healed, Reiki can be given or received easily. It is not dependent on any particular religion or belief, it just works whether you belief in it or not.
A Reiki treatment is a wonderfully relaxing process that flows through you and takes around an hour. During this time you have nothing at all to do except lay on a couch and drift away from all the pressures and stresses of the outside world. There’s no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, including plaster casts! The practitioner gently places their hands in a sequence of positions which are designed to treat the person as a whole. These hand positions are non-intrusive and cover both the front and back of the body but sometimes will be varied to give Reiki more intensely to areas where it is more specifically needed. There isn’t any massage or manipulation. You might notice feelings of warmth, tingling or coolness under the practitioners’ hands. After a treatment most people comment on feelings of total wellbeing and relaxation and many have reported significant improvement in health problems. With Reiki it’s possible to heal at any level – physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Injuries can also be helped to heal much more quickly. It works perfectly alongside all other medical or therapeutic techniques and is great for relieving side effects often associated with some medical interventions and treatments. It can also of great benefit in helping a person who has been diagnosed with terminal illness comes to terms with their situation, giving them a sense of acceptance and peace for the time they have remaining.
It’s a fantastically simple and enjoyable technique to learn. Reiki is not taught in the usual way that we learn something new, but is transferred to a student during a Reiki class. As a Reiki Master I pass on the ability to perform Reiki treatments during an “attunement”. Following attunement the student can then ‘tap into’ an unlimited supply of “life force energy” which they can then use to treat themselves or to carry out treatments on others. Reiki can be taught to anyone regardless of age, culture or background.
Regular courses are run at both Harley Street, London and Sheffield practises. Courses start at beginner level and run through to Master level. They are simple, relaxed and offer a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and development.
