The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program Adds “Snow Events” to Lineup

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 17, 2011

Individuals who love the snow and are looking for fitness challenge that will have them training outdoors with like-minded people need to look no further. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) has added the Tour of Anchorage Cross-country Ski Marathon and the Yosemite Snowshoe Hike event in Yosemite National park to their core offering of full and half-distance marathons, triathlons, century rides and hike adventures.

Training for a TNT “snow event” is similar to training for a half or full marathon, triathlon or cycle century ride, and involves cardio and strength training several days a week along with nutrition, gear and injury prevention clinics. In the case of cross-country ski, the team frequents the mountains (typically Tahoe Donner, Royal Gorge and Bear Valley) 6-7 times during the season.

No previous experience is necessary. As seven-time TNT cross-country skier Ron Lichty says, “You don’t have to know how to ski. About half of the team last year had never been on skis of any kind and all of them cross-country skied at least 25K in Alaska.”

Snowshoe hike training also includes cardio and strength training, and individuals of all fitness levels are encouraged to join. Team members enjoy hiking the trails on Mt. Tamalpias and Mt. Diablo, the California Coastal trail in San Francisco and Marin, and various parts of the East Bay Regional Park District. The snow comes in on event day, when the team straps on their snowshoes and hikes all over Yosemite, enjoying John Muir’s and Ansel Adams’ winter wonderland.

“It’s an incredibly beautiful and breathtaking experience to be hiking in the snow in Yosemite,” says snowshoe hike alum Jen Canalin. “The training completely prepares you. It’s no problem at all to simply put on your snowshoes and just go and enjoy.”

Team In Training participants train with the team for 3–5 months for their events. In exchange for their coaching and event weekend logistics, participants raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services. The Tour of Anchorage Cross-Country Ski Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska takes place on March 4, 2012 and the Yosemite Snowshoe Hike is February 4, 2012. Other TNT program offerings include Bay Area marathon training for events like the Oakland Marathon and Rome Marathon, triathlon training for the Lavaman Triathlon and cycling training for the Solvang Century.

Teams are forming now for the spring season. Interested individuals are welcome to drop in on a team training session to experience the program first-hand. For a complete list of free workouts, visit http://www.teamintraining.org/sf/firsttimehere/free or call 800.78.TRAIN.

About Team In Training

Team In Training (TNT) offers marathon training, half-marathon training, and triathlon training. TNT began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland’s daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.

The team of 38 runners raised $ 322,000 for LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world’s largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner’s World magazine in 2004 as one of their “Heroes of Running” for his role in establishing TNT.

Whether participants choose The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s traditional Team In Training program or TNT Flex, a flexible, customized online training option developed by TNT’s renowned coaches, they get all the support they need to cross the finish line at the marathon, half marathon, triathlon, century ride and hike adventure of their choice. Both offer a choice of world-class events, travel arrangements to an exciting destination, and a fabulous, activity-filled weekend once they’re there.

About The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), headquartered in White Plains, NY, with 68 chapters in the United States and Canada, is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested more than $ 750 million in research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Question by Tina T: Does anyone know of a Native American Healer who resides in New Mexico?
I’ve heard about an individual who can actually heal people, who have cancer or other problems…my father has lung cancer and we are willing to try anything. We are also part Cherokee Indian, which I believe is a requirement of this particular healer. Any information will be appreciated…thanks so much.

Best answer:

Answer by Kanien:kaha’ka
sorry to hear about your father.

i don’t know the person you have in mind but i feel i must issue a bit of a warning. your family is vulnerable rght now and there are people out there who will take advantage of that. do not have anything to do with anyone who claims to be a native healer who then talks about how much money you need to give them…they are frauds.

best bet is to go to a nation near you and ask if there is someone there who can help you. when you find the right person it is customary to give a donation of worth..but a real healer will never give you a set price.

best to you and your family.

Are you planning a business or work for someone else started? To begin, I would recommend to someone else because of the fame go to work. Tony Robbins is far from exceptional life coach in the world. Google it, um, do a search Yahoo for it, and should be able to lift its website. I think it tonyrobbins.com.Jedes company has its own qualifications for life coaches, both companies did not want gleichen.Ich honest with you. Most of life is not counseling psychology.
