I am working on my second degree of black belt in Hapkido, which is much like Aikido; daily Ki exercises have made me quite sensitive to Ki, and I have become skilled in Reiki. Is this common among black belts in Aikido? Do many Aikido black belts become Reiki practitioners? Or would they also have to go to a Reiki school to get that certification?
I will look into the cost of becoming certified in Reiki. If it is not exorbitant, I will probably go for it. If it is crazy expensive, it is just a gimmick.
To practice Reiki on my own, for my own personal recognizance, I do not need somebody else’s certificate! It is only when we want to go into some kind of business and need some kind of credibility that we need those certificates.

This one does have an interest in Reiki as it would seem to fit well with the teachings and philosophy of Morihei Ueshiba, O Sensei, Shinto, Shin Buddhist and Omoto Kyo beliefs.

It would be best for all who wish to practice Reiki to become certified so as to learn how to channel ki correctly.

May it go well with your upcoming testing. Hapkido is a good art which this studied for some years.

namaste.

(Another poster mentioned Aikido "Masters"…even those who were actually students of O Sensei, such as Yamada Sensei, Chiba Sensei, Saotome Sensei, etc, do not call themselves "masters" as O Sensei taught us that we are all beginners, learning each day.)

——————————from our Chair Person———————-
Yes, this is our bill. HB 40 Texas Health Freedom
I respectfully give you an interpretation of this bill. It is unequivocally NOT a step toward licensure. It was co-drafted by Diane Miller, executive director of the National Health Freedom Coalition (NHFC) (www.nationalhealthfreedom.org), Richard Jaffe, an esteemed Texas attorney with over 20 years’ experience defending natural and alternative health practitioners (www.richardjaffe.com) and Patrick Jackson, a naturopath and attorney who is editor of Enjoy Whole Health magazine.
I invite anyone who has concerns about this bill, to visit the NHFC web site, and examine the health freedom bills that have been enacted in other states. In contrast to these bills, and if anything, (thanks to our coordination wih Kathi Seay, Frank Corte’s chief of staff) this bill will provide increased protection for ALL natural and alternative health practitioners, including Reiki practitioners.
In order to provide that protection we have to require a standardized framework of information to allow consumers to exercise informed consent. That is a key purpose of the bill, one which the legislators will demand as a minimum.

Additionally, please carefully read the following paragraph from the bill:
Sec. 703.003. APPLICABILITY OF OTHER LAW. Notwithstanding
any other law, a person who provides complementary and alternative
health care services in compliance with Sections 703.051 and
703.052 is not practicing medicine under Subtitle B and does not
violate Subtitle B or another law of this state that requires a
person to obtain an occupational license, registration, or
certificate (my underlining for emphasis)

In other words, this bill EXEMPTS all natural and alternative practitioners from governance by any existing health care licensing law (e.g., massage therapy).
While we all would enjoy it greatly if such a bill were written in plain language to say, for example,"the state has no jurisdiction over us," the reality is that a bill like this has to be couched in language that allows it interface with the very laws it is trying to exempt us from. Thus, the possibility of misinterpretation.

In the long run, this bill will actually HELP all practitioners, because it will allow them to increase their visibility without fear of prosecution or harassment by the state, and thus allow them to reach a broader cross section of the population with their services. I hope this allays your concerns. Please contact me if you have further questions. Hope to see you on Saturday.
Peter

Thanks for sharing this with the community! I think it’s great that we are being allowed to seek alternative care…there are many providers who have been harrassed for practicing reiki and other modalities. If I lived in Texas still (used to live in San Antonio), I’d definitely be there!

Recently, I and a few others received our four attunements as level 1 Reiki practitioners. I feel upset because they had visions of blooming flowers and colors, and yet I did/do not. I am told I have a good, warm energy coming from my hands, but I want to feel as if I really have some spiritual connection.

I was told that the more I practice it, the more my energy channels will flow freely and I’d be able to sense others’ auras better. I also find trouble with sensing where an individual need the healing most on their body. Anybody have any ideas on practices I can do at home to help enhance my reiki?

Many Thanks! icon smile Seeking Reiki Advice!?

one of the things you can learn from reiki is that feeling the energy is not what matters. what matters is that it flows through you into the person on whom you put your hands. that’s all that matters. you dont need to see people’s auras, you dont need to diagnose what they have, all you have to do is give them of your time and be a channel for the reiki to flow.

with time you’ll learn to listen to your hands, you’ll become more aware of what happens inside you, but this can take a long time and requires lots of patience.
sometimes a person does feel the reiki and just doesnt know that "that is it", expecting it to be a strong and jolting sensation.
be patient. reiki is a gentle energy and will take you on your own personal jorney without lookin at what happens to others.

You can. Reiki is a healing method. I prefer human touch and deep work rather. : )

what is reiki, and what is a reiki practioner? explained as simply as you can, if possible?!
thanks x

As simply as possible, a reiki practitioner is someone who practices reiki.

Not quite as simply, reiki is a Japanese energy technique. Because I don’t want to be caught promising healing miracles, I explain it to my clients this way: It promotes relaxation and stress reduction, which in turn can give your body the energy and the environment to make itself healthier. The ability to channel reiki is given to the practitioner from a reiki master, in a process called an attunement. The practitioner then can lay hands on someone and give them reiki, or in higher levels, they can send the reiki over distances to people far away from them.

I am a level 1 reiki practitioner getting ready to become level two would love to hear if you have had good or bad experiences with it. Im told you cant have bad. and just general thoughts about it.

In my experience, anytime I have had reiki it has worked, because I was open to it. To try and give reiki to someone who isn’t open to receive it, or has doubts, or doesn’t believe in it, it won’t work.

Reiki practitioners only!!

Yes it does. Reiki will balance the chakras (energy centers) and with this energy balanced will help the patient get out of that depression, you have to be careful an actually know how to care of that patient, if there is depression there will be emotional baggage coming out so you will have to be ready to help that patient. if that patient is willing meditation will help as well. Good luck and god bless.

Yes or No? Please give reasons.

That depends on a lot of factors. You need to consider where you live — if you live in a large city, you’re more likely to be able to make a living at it, as opposed to living in a smaller city where people either have less disposable income or they’re more skeptical of alternative medicine. I certainly don’t think you’ll be able to get rich doing it, so you should ask around and find out what a typical income is for people who have existing practices.

I am a Reiki II practitioner and have been attuned to Usui Reiki since February of this year icon smile What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel? Let it be clear that i am not asking your opinion on the existence of Reiki, I am asking if anyone has any exercises that help strengthen the energy flow you channel? icon biggrin What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel? Thank you sooo much icon smile What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel?
Love Light and Peace:)

Practicing as much as possible is the best way to strengthen your channel. Practice on as many different people, animals, and plants as you are able – don’t forget daily self-treatments. The clearer your own energy channels are, the better the Reiki energy will be able to flow through you. And the more you practice, the more your ability to sense and indentify differences in the energy, which will in turn build your confidence further. Also, since it’s like any other exercise routine, the more you practice, the more adept you get.

To the end of clearing and strengthening you own energy channels, you may also wish to begin a daily program of working with your chakras. I require all my Reiki IIs to begin a chakra practice of some sort, and provide them with some guided meditations to get them started. The stronger and clearer you get your energy flow, and the more Lightenergy that you body can comfortably hold, the more Reiki energy will be able to flow through you. There are all sorts of different methods out there. Again, self-treating is one way, though I would like to see you taking a more conscious/active approach through meditation. If you Google "chakra meditations" you’ll find ALOT out there – surf around and see which one’s you like best. I recommend a program that includes chanting/toning as well as visualization of the colors and energy. Bringing the vibrations of sound in the meditations makes it extremely powerful. My ALL TIME FAVORITE chakra meditation cd (actually you can get it as an instant mp3 download for about $10) is called Chakras Gone Wild by Allen Burns: http://www.metastudies.com/store/product.php?xProd=211
If you get it (or any other album that includes chanting or toning on the appropriate notes and syllables) make sure to chant/tone along with it as you meditate on the various colors of the chakras. Chakras Gone Wild lasts about 5 minutes on each chakra, so you can do the whole thing in about 35 minutes, and it’s alot of fun and VERY effective. It layers chanting of the sanskrit mantra of each chakra, done in the corresponding musical note, with soundscapes also designed to awaken the chakra. It’s really amazing. I use it all the time, and it’s part of my chakra balancing treatment package that I have for clients.

Another really amazing way to help "strengthen" your channel is through mindfulness meditation. The largest impediment to your channel is your ego, so the more you can let go and get yourself out of the way of the energy, the stronger the energy will come through. This is one of the true core lessons of Reiki, but sadly most Western classes do not give instruction on the basic methods that one can use to develop their ability to let to. Mindfulness is really one of the best, and the easiest to learn (although difficult to master, as any form of meditation is).

A great site where you can learn more about it is http://www.wildmind.org/mindfulness. I can’t recommend it, and the practice of mindfulness enough. It teaches you to let go and just "be" with as few attachments as possible to your thoughts or your surroundings. You become very present and focused on the current moment without clinging – and THAT will allow the Reiki to come through the most clearly and strongly. I teach basic mindfulness meditation as a part of all my Reiki classes.

There are also exercises that come out of the Japanese Reiki traditions that are meant to help strengthen your connection to the energy.
Here are some links to some of those exercises:
http://www.threshold.ca/reiki/ – this is a pretty comprehensive page, just click on the various exercise titles in blue, and you will be brought to a seperate page describing the exercise and what it is meant to accomplish; Hatsurei-ho is the exercise specifically for increasing your channel.

http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/reikimeditation.html: this is a 21 day meditation routine designed to help clear and open you to greater amounts of energy.

Also, if you have any friends who are Reiki Masters, ask if they will give you repeat attunements. The one-time-attunement method that we know know was not part of Usui’s original Reiki system. He provided regular "empowerments" called reiju. Getting new attunements can act as a kind of reiju by providing you with an extra large burst of energy for your body to utilize for clearing and charging. It’s not necessary, obviously, but I do know that some practitioners that like to get new attunements on a regular basis for this reason. If 2 Masters are friends, they may swap from time to time. Again, this is not necessary, but can help increase your own energetic health and stamina, which will increase your channel.

Hope these ideas have helped – but honestly, the best way is just to PRACTICE!! You’ll eventually develop the abilities on your own, but these are some ways you can help speed things along!

Blessings!

If so, what do you think the scientific explanation is of those sensations from this method of healing?
Some Reiki practioners don’t even touch, but hold their hands slightly above. There is no massage involved.

Yes. I didn’t find the vibration as fascinating as the visual effects when he had his hands near my head. I’m not a very visually minded person and it takes me forever to visualize something with my eyes closed. The moment his hands went near my head I saw these amazing, swirling colors. The colors were changing the only way I can almost describe it is like a kaleidescope in my head. The other thing I found interesting was the fact that he knew I was pregnant before I did. When his hands were over my lower tummy, he asked if I’d been peeing a lot. I answered yes and asked if everything was okay. He said “just make a doctors appointment to get checked”. I was a little freaked but he didn’t seem to be. I found out I was pregnant about a week later. I went back and asked him about it…and he smiled and told me he didn’t want to tell me..lol. I have no idea about the scientific explanation, just that my own personal experiences make be believe that there is something to it.
