I want to know is it possible that we learn "reiki" without teacher?

This is a loaded question. First, there are many kinds of ‘Reiki’ out there – and new ones being invented every day. The Reiki that was taught by Usui-San in the 1920′s is very different from the Reiki that we have today. Reiki evolved from a spiritual/philosophical practice and has now become a hands on healing modality.

On Usui’s own memorial inscription its states that ‘anyone can access reiki because it begins within each of us.’ In an interview in 1922, Usui went on to state that he ‘received no special gift or empowerment.’

The attunements that Usui did were spiritual blessings or Recognition – denoting that the student had learned a certain body of knowledge that Usui was trying to convey (called Reiju). These Reiju did not confer the ability to access Reiki – practice and study by the student did.

Dr. Hayashi would change this attunement process into a vehicle that delivered the gift of reiki itself (called Denju). Lastly, Takata would change it again and bring it to the USA – as the Reiki gift itself.

Most Reiki teachers today follow the Takata teachings and believe strongly in the attunement process to convey Reiki ability.

In order to be able to access ‘Reiki’ on your own, you would have to undergo extensive training in matters relating to the spirit and mind – the average person would not be able to achieve this – especially today. It is much easier just to receive modern attunements / empowerments.

Well, judging by some basic research, and going on the knowledge that reiatsu means spiritual energy, I assume you mean the healing technique, although you could have provided more detail. I would assume you could learn about the basic theology of reiki by yourself. However, it’s kind of like martial arts. You could learn from a book, but to really get it, you need a teacher.

Yes! Very possible. In fact it happens a lot. Reiki is done through you not by you, therefore you are really just learning how to empty your mind and stay out of it and just let the energy do it’s thing.

The attunement process needs to be done by a master however.
You can be taught all the positions and so on and find that you use none of them and you go with your intuition. this is best in my experience and requires little teaching.

A teacher or guide is good to have though because they can help you understand the changes happening in you and the energy sensations you will be experiencing.

There are millions of good sites on reiki, just punch in reiki and read away.

You could receive a divine attunement. But really, it’s a lot easier to find a good teacher.
You can learn the philosophy and hand positions from a book, sure, but you really need to get "opened" by an attunement.
