Reiki Healing Classes Found Here Plus Free Consultation

I’m totally new to, and recently interested in learning Reiki. From what I gather there are 3degrees, each only taking 2days, which are more about attunement than study.However, it’s then down to the student to practice to develop the skill as it is a Spiritual training in a way which is much to do with lifestyle. My question is primarily about

1)how to pick a trustworthy school
and then,
2)how to choose the kind of Reiki.

They’re spending little time with you and taking varying amounts of money for the classes, I believe in Reiki, but don’t want to be conned by people trying to make a quick buck that aren’t the real deal. I’ve read that there are practices you need to avoid prior to Reiki attunement, like caffeine, amongst other things, and, that once attuned you don’t need re-attunement. However, while searching I found one centre that said they provide tea and coffee, and another that said they have refresher courses, and a third offering re-attunement.

3)Are these centres legit or have I taken the guidelines too literally?

I am attuned to level two – I choice the master based on trust of the location where I went – it was a center that I had previous relationships with for other purposes. If I where to decide to go on to level three I would get "re-attuned" as I have not regular practiced for a number of years.
The attunment will be easier on you and you will feel better afterwords if you abstain from the things like caffeine before – abut in my experience it is no a "deal breaker"
Call up the centers and let then know you are interested and ask them the same questions – see what the answers are and what feels right to you.

Although I am Reiki attuned, I recieved little instruction on how to use it properly

If you’ve only done reiki level 1 then this part of your instruction hasn’t taken place yet…. Within level 2 you will be taught symbols, one of which is the distant healing symbol. However you can hold a picture of the person between your palms and envision them as healthy, happy and at peace while sending reiki to the photo. Also you can write a thought or request for that person on a piece of paper and hold it in your hands for 10-15 minutes. You can also just meditate on the person and send healing light and energy to them. The first two ways work though…. i’ve used them myself!!

–For sure, this topic is highly debatable. However, so is belief in God or an afterlife or a soul. I’m a scientist, but I’ve come to accept we aren’t purely physical. I do know reiki as a skill works with the right teacher, but because there’s no western science to back it I know of, finding authentic practitioners could be very difficult. It’s very easy to dismiss positive results as placebo, because reiki aids the physical and other energy bodies (mental,emotional,spiritual) and thus needs the patient to be receptive mentally, spiritually, etc. in other words, to believe it will be beneficial as a treatment. This is exactly the quandry, how to verify a legit centre/school when it’s not itself well proven.

I use the term energy body, these are the terms used, but they’re not western scientists. These exist on other dimensions/planes, which is why we cannot understand or measure them. It takes a level of spiritual consciousness to "see" the auric field. I can’t defend Reiki as well as a legit practitioner, because I know little about it. All I know is that in cases it works, and, that whilst the med community don’t advise it instead of treatment by doctors for say, cancer, there is no harm it can cause. As I understand it, they don’t manipulate energy, they simply remove blockages.
These energy bodies are meant to be energy systems, like the nervous system. They have structures and networks and channels, and overlap our own visibly bodily system (nervous).To gain this level of spiritual consciousness your brain waves need to shift to higher vibrational states. There are alpha,beta,gamma and theta brain waves. The heightened vibrational state can be achieved through meditation and spiritual practice.
Nitram– if you define magic as anything we can’t see, detect or understand then most of the universe is magical. Gravity? Dark matter? Dark energy? Dark flow? The Soul? Spirit beings? 90% of our own brains? We don’t know as much as you think.
Sidenote– Apparently the "90% "non usage of the brain is a myth.

Even within range, 75% or more of what we should be able to see we can’t, like Dark Matter. It seems to me like every breakthru simply tells us we know less and less.

Do you believe in God? You may think it’s not relevant, but as you deal with scams and bring up pseudoscience I’m wondering if you’re a die hard aspiritualist? I don’t think material science has all the answers, it’s just the best we’ve got in a material world based on what we can physically perceive. I go with science, but I keep a place for the spiritual. Nitram– gravity is simply a name given to a force we can’t see to account for acceleration. It’s existence is only clear by the comparative absence of it when you recreate the atmosphere in space. Jumping off buildings doesn’t prove gravity. I can quite easily watch and expect you to go splat: expecting everyone to float off the face of the Earth if it were not for an invisible force is something which requires recreating the atmosphere in space to appreciate. Even then, you’re "observing" it by the absence of influence, its existence is a theory, we cannot see it.
—Quia, I was expecting a degree of mockery. What I find bizarre, is that many people wouldn’t bat an eyelid when it comes to belief in the supernatural or God, but those same people think Reiki is madness if you ask them. If you disbelieve anything not scientific that makes sense, but once you open that door and start to place an amount of belief in something not proven which seems fantastical, you can’t be so dismissive of other spiritual practices. One certainly doesn’t prove the other, but a realisation has to come about where science is relative to truth. As said by Professor of astrophysics Jocelyn Bell involved in discovery of quarks in space which won Nobel Prizes for her team, science is not the search for truth but a quest for understanding. It’s not the crowds that stand on the shoulders of giants nodding that become leaders in discovery, but the outsider that comes in believing themselves ignorant that says, the Emperor has no clothes. Yowsa, be very skeptical of Reiki and Reiki schools.

EDIT: Belief in Gods or an afterlife does not make Reiki any more plausible. You’re a scientist, so ask yourself what are these ‘energy bodies’ or ‘Reiki energy’ – energy is a measurement; of somethings work capability. Energy is an attribute of something and it does not exist in some pure state. And it certainly can’t be manipulated by special people or by those who have done some course.

Furthermore you can ask, if Reiki ‘energy’ has such powerful properties, how do you know it’s not doing any harm? I have never heard a decent answer to this. I’m sorry but I don’t think that any Reiki school is ligit.

Neither can we detect them, and neither are they plausible. You’re a scientist, so remember that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. In this case, there is no evidence so you must apply Occam’s Razor.

If you forgo proper medical treatment in favour of unproven treatments that can’t beat placebo, you are putting your health at risk. Especially in the case of cancer. Please remember as a scientist; scepticism is a critical part of scientific method. You must suspend belief, seek the evidence and endeavour to falsify your hypothesis.

Dana is a lady who is totally dedicated to her spiritual work. She knows all about Indian spirit guides, angels, crystals and is a Reiki Master – amongst other things. She takes every opportunity to help anyone – a kind, lively and passionate woman.

With little concern for her own wellbeing and financial situation she will generously give advice, treatments and time. The fact that she is struggling with her health, her finances and is in an unhappy relationship doesn’t ever deter her from her spiritual mission. When we met a few weeks ago and she was stressed and unwell, I invited her to come to one of my courses at a special rate.

She pondered for a while and then said to me, that she thought right now, my work wasn’t ‘spiritual’ enough for her. Her interest was in spirit guides, heavenly energies and helping others and what I was offering was ‘only’ about self. I respected her opinion and left wondering what it is that people consider to be truly ‘spiritual’.

My hunch is, that her definition is a very literal one; to do with ‘spirits’ and being in touch with what descends from the heavenly realm, rather than what creeps out from the grotty, stressful confines of this crowded planet.

Without wanting to interfere with any higher purpose or show disrespect for someone else’s journey, I do want to challenge this strange, almost childlike and wide-spread notion of spirituality. So many healers, therapists and counsellors concentrate all their energies on the ‘higher’ and ‘better’ aspect of life, that they seem to completely forget that they have a body, a mind and very earthly needs.

I believe that to really successfully work with those ‘other’ energies, we have to fulfil our own needs and master our physical existence first – or at least simultaneously. Otherwise spirituality becomes nothing but an escape mechanism, a displacement activity and another trend to follow.

Have you ever heard of Abraham Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’? Maslow was a prominent psychologist who coined the phrase of ‘self-actualisation’ in the 1950′s and developed a concept of how a person evolves to the highest level of being, spirituality and self-fulfilment.

According to this ‘Hierarchy of Needs’, although the ultimate and highest level is the spiritual, the most fundamental needs must be met first. To simplify, if someone is constantly struggling to meet their most basic requirements of food and shelter, it’s unlikely that they will put much thought into their education. They’re busy just surviving.

It seems to me that the concept of spirituality is often misunderstood. To some, it’s more like escapism from the trials and tribulations of life. They cling to rituals and strive for something higher and better, without first having mastered the basic levels of existence. We reach for the stars without first standing firmly on the ground. How can that work?

Being spiritual is not about escaping the real world, it isn’t about renouncing physical needs and the fact that we are human. The real art of spiritual being is not to transcend being human, it is to achieve understanding and harmony between all aspects of who we are. Once you have that harmony of body, mind and soul, then you can truly tune into and use the higher realms.

People at peace with themselves exude calm confidence, happiness and tolerance. They are generally healthier, more resilient and successful than those who find day-to-day life too mundane to deal with.

In my work of helping clients to lead the lives they want to lead and release limiting beliefs, fears and traumas that have held them back so far, I like to be practical, down-to-earth and light-hearted because to me that’s the perfect antidote to all the heaviness of theoretical concepts. Spirituality has to be practical as well – it has to make us and those we encounter happy, healthy and in harmony with who we are. Otherwise you will feel as though you are doing every possible spiritual thing you can and are still getting nowhere.

Astrology , Yoga & Pranic Healing

Yoga is the science of holistic health. According to Yoga therapy,
disease was defined as an imbalance in any of the three lower
sheaths of existence – physical, vital & mental. The other sheaths are
