I’m approaching graduation to become a certified massage therapist and currently i’m designing a mandatory project representing what my own business could (in my case, will) be. To give you a quick background into what I plan to offer: Specializing in oriental bodywork and medicine, I will offer Thai Yoga Massage (northern style), Zen Shiatsu, Reflexology, Reiki, and Restoration Therapy. For now i’m a sole proprietor, so the name has to be for me and me alone. Eventually I may expand into a spa type atmosphere with my own man-made hot springs and Japanese style inn (ryokan), but I could always change the name later right? By the way, that’s many years down the road! For now all I will offer is the massage and eventually after more education more about medicinal herbs, etc. Now that’s giving you a summary of what I do and might offer at the very least. There is a couple ideas that have inspired me, such as http://www.tenthousandwaves.com japanese style spa in Santa Fe, NM. BEAUTIFUL, and very close to the type of atmosphere i’d offer. Another example is the "Eight Branches" School of Asian Bodywork ( http://www.eightbranches.org/global/pages/Home/index.html ). What i’ve noticed about these names? They don’t have what I call "filler" words like "of" or "the", it isn’t boring such as "Jesse’s Massage, LMT", but it’s simple and uses words that flow easily. "Ten Thousand Waves" makes me think of a rolling ocean, which for some people is therapeutic. "Eight Branches" signifies simplicity about something common in nature, and yet it feels as if it fits, and for some it can signify peace. It doesn’t need to be complex, but it should relate to what I offer in some form. I tried fitting "Zen" in the name, but there is already many businesses with that name. And i’m not sure if I should have it as a name in another language, or just english. Hope you’ve got some good ideas!

You could think of a name that is exotic and at the same time meaningful, how about "Laxo" it’s the Latin word for Relax, to relieve; release, set free, liberate. Or you could include the word "Otium" that means free time, leisure, ease, peace, repose in Latin. I’m not a professor of Latin, I work in Advertising but I guess you could give it a touch of mysticism using a Latin word in the name.

Hope it helps.

I am a Reiki II practitioner and have been attuned to Usui Reiki since February of this year icon smile What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel? Let it be clear that i am not asking your opinion on the existence of Reiki, I am asking if anyone has any exercises that help strengthen the energy flow you channel? icon biggrin What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel? Thank you sooo much icon smile What are some excersises I could do to strengthen the flow of the Reiki I channel?
Love Light and Peace:)

Practicing as much as possible is the best way to strengthen your channel. Practice on as many different people, animals, and plants as you are able – don’t forget daily self-treatments. The clearer your own energy channels are, the better the Reiki energy will be able to flow through you. And the more you practice, the more your ability to sense and indentify differences in the energy, which will in turn build your confidence further. Also, since it’s like any other exercise routine, the more you practice, the more adept you get.

To the end of clearing and strengthening you own energy channels, you may also wish to begin a daily program of working with your chakras. I require all my Reiki IIs to begin a chakra practice of some sort, and provide them with some guided meditations to get them started. The stronger and clearer you get your energy flow, and the more Lightenergy that you body can comfortably hold, the more Reiki energy will be able to flow through you. There are all sorts of different methods out there. Again, self-treating is one way, though I would like to see you taking a more conscious/active approach through meditation. If you Google "chakra meditations" you’ll find ALOT out there – surf around and see which one’s you like best. I recommend a program that includes chanting/toning as well as visualization of the colors and energy. Bringing the vibrations of sound in the meditations makes it extremely powerful. My ALL TIME FAVORITE chakra meditation cd (actually you can get it as an instant mp3 download for about $10) is called Chakras Gone Wild by Allen Burns: http://www.metastudies.com/store/product.php?xProd=211
If you get it (or any other album that includes chanting or toning on the appropriate notes and syllables) make sure to chant/tone along with it as you meditate on the various colors of the chakras. Chakras Gone Wild lasts about 5 minutes on each chakra, so you can do the whole thing in about 35 minutes, and it’s alot of fun and VERY effective. It layers chanting of the sanskrit mantra of each chakra, done in the corresponding musical note, with soundscapes also designed to awaken the chakra. It’s really amazing. I use it all the time, and it’s part of my chakra balancing treatment package that I have for clients.

Another really amazing way to help "strengthen" your channel is through mindfulness meditation. The largest impediment to your channel is your ego, so the more you can let go and get yourself out of the way of the energy, the stronger the energy will come through. This is one of the true core lessons of Reiki, but sadly most Western classes do not give instruction on the basic methods that one can use to develop their ability to let to. Mindfulness is really one of the best, and the easiest to learn (although difficult to master, as any form of meditation is).

A great site where you can learn more about it is http://www.wildmind.org/mindfulness. I can’t recommend it, and the practice of mindfulness enough. It teaches you to let go and just "be" with as few attachments as possible to your thoughts or your surroundings. You become very present and focused on the current moment without clinging – and THAT will allow the Reiki to come through the most clearly and strongly. I teach basic mindfulness meditation as a part of all my Reiki classes.

There are also exercises that come out of the Japanese Reiki traditions that are meant to help strengthen your connection to the energy.
Here are some links to some of those exercises:
http://www.threshold.ca/reiki/ – this is a pretty comprehensive page, just click on the various exercise titles in blue, and you will be brought to a seperate page describing the exercise and what it is meant to accomplish; Hatsurei-ho is the exercise specifically for increasing your channel.

http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/reikimeditation.html: this is a 21 day meditation routine designed to help clear and open you to greater amounts of energy.

Also, if you have any friends who are Reiki Masters, ask if they will give you repeat attunements. The one-time-attunement method that we know know was not part of Usui’s original Reiki system. He provided regular "empowerments" called reiju. Getting new attunements can act as a kind of reiju by providing you with an extra large burst of energy for your body to utilize for clearing and charging. It’s not necessary, obviously, but I do know that some practitioners that like to get new attunements on a regular basis for this reason. If 2 Masters are friends, they may swap from time to time. Again, this is not necessary, but can help increase your own energetic health and stamina, which will increase your channel.

Hope these ideas have helped – but honestly, the best way is just to PRACTICE!! You’ll eventually develop the abilities on your own, but these are some ways you can help speed things along!

Blessings!

I was raised Catholic, and my mom is a Reiki master, and has her own "spiritual shop, but I’m not to comfortable with the whole idea. What should I tell her

Reiki – Means Universal (Rei) Life Force (Ki). It involves healing through touch, though a reiki practitioner can give Reiki without touching you as well.

Various cultures around the world have used it at different points in time though it was lost for a long time. The technique was re-discovered by a Japanese professor called Dr. Mikao Usui in the early part of the 20th century. While Reiki is a resurrection of this ancient healing form of energy (placing of the hands – as some Christian Monks and Nuns used to do), the methodology is unique, free flowing and uplifting.

Reiki belongs to no one it is all around you and within you. Like Christ said ‘the kingdom of heaven is within you’. Reiki helps give you the universal, loving energy to find your own wisdom and free yourself, it will not do it for you though. Good Love to you!

REIKI

o

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.

a

Natural Healing

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

o

A Reiki Treatment

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.

Which conditions can Reiki help?

It is possible to heal at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases there is usually great benefit and enhancement of the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.

Reiki healing can be given anywhere at any time as no special equipment is needed. The practitioner is a channel which the energy is drawn through by the need or imbalance in the recipient. Neither person has to use any effort of will or concentration during this process.

As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in one’s life.

Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary.

As we have all felt, there are times when our daily lives can seem like one giant, mass of despair and confusion. A mixture of the struggling economy, greed, and war, with people just being downright rude to each other for no good reason, the negativity can take its toll. Sometimes, we can all get the urge to simply fly away to our very own private get-away island, to escape away from it all.

Since this is not always possible, it’s good to know that there is another way to find the inner peace we are all so desperately seeking. By practicing the Japanese spiritual practice known as Reiki, you achieve physical, emotional, and spiritual peace.

Reiki is known to have originated around 1922 with Mikao Usui on the Japanese mountain called Kurama. After three weeks of fasting and meditation, Usui claimed to have received the ability healing without energy depletion. Usui then moved to Tokyo where he then created what became known as the 5 Reiki Principles, which include: do not be angry, do not worry, be grateful, work with integrity, and be kind to others. By adhering to these five precepts on a daily basis, according to the Principles, you will invite good fortune into your life as well as medicine to heal all illnesses.

We also know that there are some common ways to practice Reiki, including whole body treatment and localized treatment. Whole body treatment involves having the recipient lie down on a massage table while the practitioner applies hands in various positions for up to 90 minutes, resulting in a feeling of overall contentment and peacefullness. Localized treatments are where hands are placed on a specific area of the body, usually that has experienced some type of trauma or injury. This lasts for about 20 minutes on average, and is helpful in healing the injured area.

A new and popular method of practicing Reiki is to combine this treatment with other Alternative Healing methods. The purpose of each healing method being to bring about tranquility, and soothing the body and mind into a healing space. Providing that state of being which brings about a state of deep calmness and deep spiritual fulfillment can be achieved through a combination of alternative healing practices. Repeated on a daily basis, the combination of meditation and treatment can lead to a happier, healthier life. It is being shown that you don’t have to let the negativity caused by the daily grind keep you from the life you truly deserve, Alternative Healing can help all of us.
