There are many confusing and wrong messages
bouncing around in cyberspace for a life coach. After coaching 600 people in the past 13 years, spoke with dozens of coaches and surfing Web sites with about 100 more, I share my track of what coaching is – and what does not. I want to say in advance that is not my intention to offend or disparage. I’m just indicating informed opinion, best with a grain of salt.
It is important that the area of ??coaching will be taken starting unregulated. This means that someone without formal training, they can be like a life coach. And they can any way they want to coach. Sun protest emptor! Responsibility for the selection of a coach who will serve you best for you. In my research I have found that basically two types of life coaches, and the contrast is strong. There are coaches that they hold you accountable and help you be motivated to stay while you saying you achieve your goals. They tout their excellent listening skills and questioning as the main talent. In my unscientific survey no doubt, about 99% of the coaches I have met in person and online fall into this category. In the other camp coaches with excellent listening skills and questions which will help them to say, new ways of thinking and behavior. These coaches have researched and developed special techniques you can learn how to apply, then for each topic for the rest of his life. The purpose of this type of coaching is to improve the skills of independently of each other to achieve their desires faster, more efficient and more fun. In my opinion, coaching that goes on indefinitely, you need the support of your coach to achieve the objectives, but not learning new skills) is co-dependency, but no coach. Intentionally or not, is someone who is not a coach, they are a parasite. True life coaches have a number of strategies you can use to develop for the rest of his life. Beyond mere attainment Coaching is about your growth as a human being. With that said, I think all coaches have a genuine desire to help. However, most coaches training (if any), you are the best words I can think of … incomplete and in some cases inappropriate. With this background, let’s look behind the curtain of the biggest secrets in the coach. Secret # 1: promising results are visible immediately ImpossibleThe industrial and information age, breed abundance of Gadgets, pills, books and videos that promise instant results. Not surprisingly, you should expect is programmed to coaching immediately better their lives. Consequently, many coaches feel pressure to meet these expectations, creating a kind of dramatic “breakthrough” in every coaching session. The idea is that if the coach asks the right questions are too deep, you’ll have a brilliant flash of insight. There are two fallacies here. The first is the assumption that “do” something coaches for their clients. In fact, it is the customer’s action, the results they produce, the search will be conducted. Secondly, coaching is a process, not an event. As you can see some improvement in one session, to change his life be repeated during a continuous improvement focus, and learning new ways to do things differently. Of course, big changes happen, but you and your coach will put unnecessary pressure on myself, trying to force a big change, do not need or not. course that finished study is an important part of coaching. But the role of issues is not your sleigh crashes in a dramatic breakthrough. The questions are a tool used to help you win your process to lead you deeper self-knowledge. The goal of coaching is to not rush to do it is to help you learn as much as possible. The process of training and internal changes in thinking is as unique as fingerprints and unknowable as the ocean depths. It takes time, what you need. Even with the largest crystal in the world can not coach a specific result to promise a specific date. Any coach who tells you that a certain level of 1.3 or 10 coaching sessions will be ignored, your personality and responsibility for their own growth. This is inconsistent with the basic philosophy of coaching. Secret # 2: Personality tests are of no value to your career choice widely accepted myth of personality is that by adulthood, it is set in stone. But in 100 years of intensive training, psychologists can not even agree on a definition of personality, not to mention the limits of its development. Two popular personality tests to use that coaches are the life and career of the Myers-Briggs and the disc. Their thinking is that choose a career that matches your personality Best (really unstable land). The supposed advantage of this strategy is to reduce the bulk of his career choice. In order to alleviate their suffering, oppressed coach in one of a handful of boxes, then a relatively short list of careers that some undetermined proportion of these may be your personality type “successful.” Never mind that these tests are not scientific validity. Meaning, you could use the same test on two different days and take two very different results. In addition, you can compare these tests to all standards (eg gender, ethnicity and cultural affiliation), ignore your personality and context. icing on the cake is that there is research showing that the Myers-Briggs does not predict success, work well with it for that purpose expressly stated in the manual of discouraged. But for some inexplicable reason, many coaches make gobs of money he made. It just seems unethical, or at least the antithesis of the spirit of coaching. The disc is faulty logic, which is based on four personality types, forced to choose a man can have four options for each question on the test to be worried. What if you disagree with any of the elections? If you have enough options that do not reflect what you choose really think that the results are less than useless. They can be devastating misleading. best coaches will tell you that personality traits are easy to develop models of behavior (and get comfortable) have throughout their lives. As role models, each feature can be changed intentionally, whenever you want, when you have the tools. Accordingly, you talk about your career is not in the strategy of matching the job description in column A to column B
Secret # 3: action to ensure action undermines its Real Power
now to To see the results to reach them to teach action coach. Much of it. They think that if you do more, more, faster. They will sell you a fancy spreadsheet planner to keep track of your actions, too.But in all of these Tat-Tat Tat, you can lose sight of your motivation, why you want what you want. It is why the residents want something focused IT benefits – to find that the juice to continue this policy until they get it. As I mentioned in my previous post, most coaches describe their role in keeping you accountable to take serious action before the next session manager. Their strategy is that you will be motivated to avoid humiliation, nothing to report on the desires, and this system works. Avoiding humiliation is a strong motivator, but you away from a great source of strength: their passion. So the responsibility is the default strategy for coaches who do not have any tools to tackle the real problem: how to deal with negative thoughts that stop you deal freely pursue their passion. The best coaches not rely on avoidance to drive your human pain (embarrassment, guilt, etc.). Instead, they stoke the fires of motivation to find what you’re excited. Secret # 4: Success is not a destination, and do not need to talk to coach much success as if success is one thing you may have. Well, if this would be a success will be your goal. Once you reach, you can sit back and coast the rest of his life. If you are forced to succeed, you can feel good about yourself only after you have fully achieved this desire. But in this scenario, a good feeling eventually faded, allowing you to go to another destination, so you can feel good again asked. However, there is a big difference between success and fulfilled life. Success is a distant goal that can reach beyond one day. Every day until then goes to work, effort, sacrifice and pain. Deferred gratification. On the other hand, if you enjoy a full life, every step you take to each application, an act of execution. They experience fulfillment as an internal selection, which creates a constant state of existence feel fulfilled every day Secret # 5:. Success requires discipline. Even if you think you need it, you have plenty of it
Coaches emphasize that it is necessary, discipline and dedication to succeed. But you already have all the discipline, dedication and courage you have all the things you want. You just do not know it, you certainly can not feel it anyway, and you need it. In their defense, most buses are not aware of is, too.
Here’s the proof: If you’ve ever had a job that you worked for more than 10 minutes for your presentation, and discipline. My bet is that you have been around for years in jobs that you find tedious or otherwise boring way, it favors for others who would not do, and cause great to load chores. It takes discipline HUGE! So give yourself some credit. Just because you struggle to lose 10 pounds does not mean you’re stuck, undisciplined losers. This simply means that you do not know how to focus more. After coaching 600 people that I’ve seen that require skill, not too strong, commitment, courage and discipline to develop, enjoy a full life. All you need is passion. You see, passion is not just a feeling, it is a manifestation of power. If you engage your passion, get tons of energy, discipline, courage and commitment (more on that next) along for the ride. What is true, say it is your nature to think and pursue the object of their passion until they get it. If you think about it, discipline and dedication are just synonyms wishes to remain focused on what you want until you get it. But discipline is a difficult word. Room laden with guilt, frustration, disappointment and failure. Coaches are useful to lessen the burden of such baggage, only if the exercise of passion as the basis and driving force behind each goal, stress Secret # 6:. It is not justified limitations “only have to live with” is a widespread belief in our culture, creating an obligation limitations. If you set a career or a partner, you are essentially the UN to choose another option. You stick with your choice of sacrificing more and more attractive option. This perspective is missing an important point. Ultimately, a commitment to freedom of expression to choose. If you decide you are free to develop in this career, relationships, hobbies, whatever. And while you’re alive, you are free to choose again and again and again … If you order fish, you have disabled steak or chicken in this meal. But the herbs to cook the side dishes are methods, there are countless variations of whatever food you choose. Remember that every meal includes salad and dessert – more options to suit your palate. The point is that there are endless possibilities for your career, your relationships, or any part of your life so that you’re feeling (implemented) full every day. The only limitation is your imagination. You can not earn a living without a career choice. You can not have a full life without a romantic lover. To select a steak career or mate. Or chicken or fish mate or career. Simply choose to live and learn. You can dial at any time if you find you have to do that About Author Judy
