Question by Merritina: Do reiki masters/practitioners use or see auras at all? Isn’t it just the Universal Life Energy?
Hello 
I’ve been interested in reiki for a while, and I’m going to maybe take a class, but I’ve seen auras surrounding people, animals, and plants for years. How closely related are auras and reiki healing?

Reiki (???, English pronunciation: /?re?ki?/) is a spiritual practice[1] developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies.[2] Through the use of this technique, practitioners claim to transfer healing energy in the form of ki through the palms.[3]
There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. Within both Traditional and Westernised forms of Reiki, there are three forms of degrees, commonly referred to as the First, Second, and Master/Teacher degree. According to Reiki practitioners and Masters, at First Degree, a Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others, at Second Degree is able to heal others distantly (commonly called distant healing) with the use of specialised symbols, and at Master level (specifically Master/Teacher level) is able to teach and attune others to Reiki.
A 2008 systematic review of randomised clinical trials[4] concluded that "..the evidence is insufficient to suggest that reiki is an effective treatment.." for the conditions studied (depression, pain and anxiety, and others).

Question by Live Alive: What those it mean when people say that Reiki healers use their heart chakra to heal?
Im a Reiki 2 practitioner and I have heard tons of people say that most Reiki Practitioners heal from their heart chakra. What does this mean? When I do Reiki I just feel the energy project through me.

Reiki is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Seers in the Orient studied energies and developed a system of sounds and symbols for universal reiki healing energies. Various healing systems, which crossed many different cultures, emerged from this single root system to reiki system.
Reiki is useful in treating serious serious illnesses as well as others. Examples are: sports injuries, cuts, burns, internal diseases, emotional disorders, and stress-related illnesses. Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970s. Since then its use has spread dramatically worldwide.

Question by Evolver_dad: What are some good sites to visit about reiki?
I’ve just recently gotten my level one attunement to reiki and now I just seem to want to read everything I can find on the topic. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good sites besides the standard google results that have quality information about reiki?
I would also love to exchange ideas and info with any other reiki practitioners and hopefully build a small group of friends who share the same interests as me.

I took an introductory course in animal Reiki from Kathleen Prasad at Brighthaven Sanctuary.
She has a website at: http://animalreikisource.com and a Yahoo group called animalreikisource. Many members of her group send Reiki to animals and their owners.
I learned that another person is doing animal Reiki at the local shelter and will be meeting with her this afternoon to get started with the animals there.
